Abstract: This research examined the effect of Graphic Advance Organizers on the interest and performance of secondary school students in Basic Science within Zing LGA, Taraba State, Nigeria. The study employed a quasi-experimental control group design, incorporating pretests and posttests, and utilized a non-randomized approach with intact classes. The participant pool consisted of 13,564 students, from which a sample of 190 students was selected (95 for the experimental group and 95 for the control group). Two schools were randomly chosen from the population, pretested, and analyzed using inferential statistics. Simple random sampling by balloting assigned one school to each group. Data collection instruments included the Basic Science Performance Test (BSPT) and the Basic Science Students’ Interest Questionnaire (BSSIQ). The data collected in response to the research questions were analyzed using frequency counts, means, and standard deviations. Additionally, inferential statistics were applied to test the hypotheses. The analysis was conducted using version 25 of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study's findings revealed a significant difference in the mean interest levels of students in the experimental group before and after the intervention. Furthermore, there was a notable difference in the mean posttest scores between the experimental and control groups. It was concluded that Graphic Advance Organizers have the potential to enhance Junior Secondary School students' interest and performance in Basic Science. Based on these findings, several recommendations were made: first, there should be training and retraining programs by SUBEB, STAN, and similar organizations for Basic Science teachers on the use and design of Graphic Advance Organizers. Second, Basic Science teachers should incorporate graphic advance organizers into their teaching at junior secondary schools. Lastly, the use of graphic advance organizers should be promoted in co-educational schools, as they are gender-friendly.
