Abstract: This paper explores the theme of Alienation in Anita Desai's Cry, The Peacock (1963) and Kiran Desai's Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard (1997).

Although distance is a long-standing oddity, it has reached unsettling proportions in the modern day. This level of mindfulness has been achieved via a few variables. Because man is prone to almost all of society's physical and psychological assaults as well as its regulators, he is characterised by a sense of detachment. The contradictory consequences of distance cause people to either give up or believe that they are not independent or in a position of close proximity to computers.
