Monitoring and optimising hydro-carbon transport in Burkina Faso: The expériences of total energies Marketing Burkina
Author(s): Vincent Zoma
Abstract: The transport of hydrocarbons is a crucial issue for landlocked countries that are not producers of petroleum products. This article examines strategies for monitoring and optimising hydrocarbon transport at TotalEnergies Marketing Burkina, a key player in oil distribution in Burkina Faso in collaboration with the Société Nationale Burkinabè des Hydrocarbures (SONABHY). The research methodology included documentary analysis, semi-structured interviews and direct observations in the field. The results reveal that transport monitoring is based on rigorous organisation, strict driver training, and the use of geolocation technologies to monitor trucks in real time. These practices ensure compliance with regulations, safe operations and efficient deliveries. The article also proposes recommendations for improving the monitoring and management of operations, thereby meeting the specific needs of Burkina Faso, a landlocked country that is critically dependent on neighbouring coastal countries for its hydrocarbon supplies.
