Abstract: In recent years, the Indo-Pacific region has garnered significant attention as a prominent hub for geopolitical and geo-economic competition among major global powers. According to certain analysts, using the term "Indo" in the context of the "Indo-Pacific" signifies India's incorporation within this particular region's geopolitical dynamics. India has emerged as a significant regional power, characterised by a substantial economy and a formidable naval force. Historically, India has exhibited a pronounced emphasis on bolstering its land border security measures, while maritime security has been primarily regarded as a concern limited to the Indian Ocean region. This study elucidates the observation that, in light of the burgeoning Indo-Pacific paradigm, India has notably broadened its sphere of maritime security interests from the Indian Ocean to encompass the broader Indo-Pacific region. This research paper examines India's primary traditional and non-traditional security challenges within the Indo-Pacific region. This study also examined the measures undertaken by India to bolster its strategic capabilities and tactics to address the security challenges prevalent in the Indo-Pacific region. In the final section, this study concludes that while Indian strategic capabilities are experiencing significant growth, they still fail to effectively address the security challenges presented by state and non-state actors within the Indo-Pacific region. India should prioritise the development of its indigenous capabilities and concentrate on forging constructive partnerships with like-minded nations in the region to address the security challenges prevailing in this region effectively.
