Abstract: The "Act East" strategy of India is an important tactful attempt to enhance economic, geopolitical, and cultural connections with, and serve as a gateway to, the Asia-Pacific region. It builds on the earlier 'Look East' policy, which aimed to engage with Southeast Asian nations. Now named as 'Act East Policy' in the Modi’s Era. It seeks to deepen India's relations with countries concerned about China's growing influence. The Cold War’s end prompted India to implement economic reforms and pursue a multifaceted foreign policy, leading to a focus on the Asia-Pacific region for mutual benefit. Initially driven by economic interests, the policy later gained strategic significance, with institutional development, infrastructure, and shared strategic interests as its core pillars. Manipur violence emerged as a setback for the Act East policy in. Long-term effects of the unrest in Manipur on the Act East policy would be vital to India's strategic interests.
