Abstract: Background: Plantar fasciitis (PF) results from degenerative changes in plantar fascia, particularly observed near its attachment to calcaneal tuberosity. Patients may present with heel pain with their first steps in the morning or after prolonged sitting, and sharp pain with palpation of the medial plantar calcaneal region. Therapeutic taping is a common clinical intervention facilitating pain reduction, joint support, proprioception, and muscle tone normalization. Kinesio tape is an elastic tape having unique qualities like elasticity, adherence, texture and recoil.
Methods: In this single-blinded pilot study, 11 samples were applied Kinesio tape for 4 sessions, twice weekly along with stretching of plantar fascia and standardised exercise protocol. Analysis of outcome measures i.e. pain by Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) was done for foot pain at its worst and foot pain in morning.
Results: Analysis of pre and post intervention data showed statistically significant improvement (p<0.05) in terms of NPRS (foot pain at its worst; foot pain in morning). Mean difference of NPRS (foot pain at its worst; foot pain in morning) was 3.52±2.04 and 3.56±2.10 respectively.
Conclusion: This study concluded Kinesio taping technique has positive effect in improving pain in patients with plantar fasciitis.
