Abstract: Globally, there are numerous life-threatening diseases that cause significant sickness and mortality. Oral cavity disorders being one of the least concerned and most neglected can lead to severe systemic diseases and hence early detection and treatment are always a high priority. There are many medical and dental approaches available today to explore and treat various dental disorders, but they provide challenges in diagnosis, clinical decision-making, treatment planning, treatment result prediction, and, most significantly, are time-consuming and inaccurate. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a burgeoning technology and a boon to dentistry that can overcome every challenge that is faced by diverse dental specialties. Our literature review aims at elaborating on the multifaceted application, limitation, challenges and possible future of AI in various branches of dentistry which can aid in diagnosis, treatment planning, prediction making, record keeping, as well as dental research and discovery.
