Abstract: The study on “Tradition and Transformation: Ethnic Cultures of North East India”, employs a mixed-methods design, integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches to explore the region’s rich cultural heritage. Findings reveal North East India as a vibrant mosaic of over 200 ethnic groups, where language, customs, festivals, music, dance, and rituals remain central to identity and social cohesion. Approximately 85% of respondents associate cultural practices with self-identification, while 70% actively participate in communal traditions, highlighting intergenerational transmission of values. Modernization and globalization present both challenges, such as cultural erosion, and opportunities for adaptation and revitalization. Indigenous knowledge in agriculture, medicine, and sustainability remains significant, yet awareness of preservation initiatives is limited. The study underscores the need for integrated strategies to sustain ethnic cultural heritage amid social change.
