The physical analysis of Yamuna River and study of socio-economic issues: A case study of Delhi

Abstract: This paper majorly focused upon the physical characteristics of the river Yamuna in all the five states through which the river flows i.e. Uttrakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh which includes the morphology of the river, the Yamuna plain, river’s environmental flow, its water quality, annual flood etc. and the impact of human activities on these characteristics which mainly have caused change in river course, deteriorated its water quality, increase in pollution level due to agricultural and domestic and industrial waste that is going directly into the river, draining of many small and big drains into the river, inability of the authorities to manage the sewerage waste and regulating idol immersion during festivals. The paper also analyze the efforts of government in this regard and shows the importance of state to revive some natural entity.
