Abstract: The paper examines the exports/imports agricultural performance between 2008 and 2018 based on secondary data in APEDA. It reviews the trade patterns and identifies the movements of agricultural competitiveness, applying statistical techniques. Notably, there are turning points, particularly in the 2011–12 and 2014–15 years, when realignments in trade were affected by policy. The research identifies three distinct phases of developing trade, and the last regime provides the stable balance of the trade and the reduced level of imports. In the analysis, the conclusion drawn is that throughout the decade, the agricultural trade of India experienced a major shift to balance between deficit and surplus, and there was continuous growth of exports as compared to imports. In India the agricultural position in the export basket has increased, and this implies that India has long-run potential of being globally competitive, though it lacks infrastructural support as well as policy implementation.
